    Summary

    During the first lecture of Chinese poetic prosody, Professor Wang Yuming will present an overview of Chinese ancient poems as well as the prosodic patterns of Jueju poems (or Chinese quatrains). In the lecture he will introduce us the regulated verse style of five-character quatrains, metric rules (粘zhan and 对dui ), and the typical style of five-character quatrains and seven-character quatrains.

    Brief introduction to the speaker

    Wang Yuming (courtesy name Yunhui, honorably receiving from Ye Jiaying), “a poet among academicians”, is the member of Chinese Academy of Engineering. As an expert in mechanical design and theory, he now works as the professor of Department of Mechanical Engineering of Tsinghua University and the director of academic committee of State Key Laboratory of Automotive Safety and Energy. He is also in the position as the consultant of Chinese Poetry Society, the director of College Poetry Committee, the council member of Calligraphy and Painting Society of Chinese Academy of Engineering as well as Tsinghua Liberal Education Center, and the president of Hetang Poets'Society. He has published four poetry collections and two photo books.
