    VENUE West Lecture Theatre

    Speaker

Professor Sergio Cecotti, theoretical physicist, who has worked many years in the non-perturbative dynamics of supersymmetric quantum field theories, supergravity, and string theory with a special emphasis on their geometric aspects. He has joined Beijing Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Applications (BIMSA) since 2022. Before joining BIMSA, he was a professor at Scuola Internazionale Superiore di Studi Avanzati (SISSA).

    Abstract

We outline the history of the original motivations which led Max Planck to his formula for the black body spectral density, where his celebrated constant h makes its first appearance, and discuss the far reaching consequences of Planck’s unintended revolution.
