Shing-Tung Yau, Dean of Qiuzhen College, led a practical study tour of history in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province

Know the history to learn from it, and investigate the past to know the present. The practical tour of Chinese history is not only a significant component of the culture in Qiuzhen College, but also a part of the general education personally designed by Mr. Shing-Tung Yau, Dean of Qiuzhen College. From October 22nd to 24th, Mr. Shing-Tung Yau led students and teachers in Qiuzhen College to Nanjing, the ancient capital of the Six Dynasties, to experience Chinese history and feel Chinese culture once again.

As one of the famous ancient capitals in Chinese history, Nanjing has a bright history and culture, witnessing the vicissitudes and great changes of modern China.During this historical study tour, teachers and students of Qiuzhen College visited the ruins of the Ming City Wall at Xuanwu Lake, the Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, the Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum, the Science Museum, the Nanjing Museum and the Presidential Palace. During the visit, on the one hand, the students listened to the experts’ explanations of various historical scenic spots and cultural relics to deeply understand the historical and cultural development of Nanjing; on the other hand, they experienced the decline and great changes of China’s modern history in the context of Nanjing’s special background in history.

During this historical study tour, Mr. Cheng Zhangcan, the librarian of Nanjing University, gave a keynote lecture entitled "Six Dynasties culture and Nanjing" for teachers and students of Qiuzhen Academy, allowing them to get to know the ancient capital Nanjing from the perspective of historical research, to appreciate the myth of Jinling’s kingliness, and to have a deeper understanding of Nanjing’s special political position in modern history, the rise, prosperity and decline of the ancient Chinese imperial examination system.
