Tsinghua University Special Scholarship is the highest honor for students at Tsinghua University. The scholarship is selected once a year for no more than 10 undergraduate students each time.
Lin Yiran, a student of the first Mathematical Science Leading Talent Training Program of Qiuzhen College, was awarded the 2023 Tsinghua University Special Scholarship (undergraduate) after the application, department qualification examination, preliminary evaluation of the department, the first round of selection of the school and field defense was approved by the university administration meeting.

Lin Yiran, a student of 2021 majoring in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics (eight-year system) at Tsinghua University, was successfully selected into the Talent Training Program of Tsinghua University (Mathematics Class). National Scholarship, Tsinghua University Comprehensive Excellent Scholarship, Academic Excellent Scholarship; 2022 Gold Award (Hua Luogeng Award), Bronze Award for geometry and topology (Chen Provincial Award), Algebra, number theory and combination bronze Award (Zhou Weiliang Award); 2022 Gold Award for analysis and differential equation (Hua Luogeng Award), geometry and topology Gold Award (Chen Provincial Award), individual all-around prize; 2023 Alibaba Global Mathematics Competition.
For academic development, he pays importance to mathematics and physics
Mr.Yau originally wanted to take root in China and cultivate world-class leading mathematics talents. In 2021, Lin Yiran passed the selection and became one of the first students to be selected for the " Yau Mathematics Science Leading Talent Training Program". As a Qiuzhen student, Lin Yiran has always taken the revitalization of the basic science cause of the motherland as the goal and mission of his unremitting struggle and has studied down-to-earth and diligently. In their freshman year, Lin Yiran studied a series of basic courses in analysis, algebra, and physics with a solid foundation. In their sophomore year, he completed the theoretical mechanics and electrodynamics courses among the four major mechanics with excellent results. The depth and beauty of mathematics soon made Lin Yiran not satisfied with the basic courses, so he took five graduate courses in advance, all of which achieved excellent results. Lin Yiran started to participate in teacher Fu Lei's algebraic geometry discussion class in her freshman year. At that time, the discussion class was all the first-grade students of Qiuzhen College. Facing many graduate students of algebraic geometry, it was hard for everyone to learn it at first. But Lin Yiran chose to insist, became one of the few students to learn the last, and benefited a lot from it. Every Monday night, Mr.Yau teaches a math history course. This is one of Lin's favorite courses at Tsinghua University. In his opinion, the magnificent history of mathematics is impressive, the outstanding academic achievements are inspiring, and the great mathematician has set an excellent example for the students.
In discipline competitions, he always comes out on top
In 2022, Lin Yiran participated in the Yau Mathematics Competition for the first time and competed with national college students who love mathematics. Finally, he won the gold medal in the direction of analysis and partial differential equations, breaking the competition record and becoming the first student to win the gold medal in the first year. In 2023, Lin Yiran once again participated in the Yau Mathematics Competition and won three gold awards, namely the individual all-around gold medal, the gold medal in geometry and topology, and the gold medal in analysis and partial differential equations. Individual all-around gold medal only Lin Yiran one person, who also became the only sophomore student to win this award in the past five years.
Dean Yau encouraged the students of Qiuzhen College to go out and compete with outstanding college students from abroad. William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition is the "ceiling" of the global college mathematics competition. In 2022, Qiuzhen College surpassed Harvard University Stanford University, and other famous universities in the United States. Among the 27 students in the competition, 17 students entered the top 100 in the total ranking. Among them, Lin Yiran ranked first place in the College and second in the international total ranking.

In scientific research, he was exposed himself in the first edge
At the beginning of the fall semester of 2023, Lin Yiran just entered the third year and passed the doctoral examination of Qiuzhen College to officially start his academic research. Mr.Qiu Chengtong, the dean, opened the dean's discussion class, discussed the class exchange activities twice a week, personally guided the students to study the classic mathematics articles, and invited the students to take turns to make reports in the discussion class. Sophomore year, Lin Yiran is still just an audience, listening to senior students on the stage to share their learning experiences. Whenever he did not understand the place, he would boldly ask questions and seek patient answers from his seniors. Since this summer vacation, Lin Yiran has also stepped onto the platform of the seminar and became one of the main speakers, lecturing on the Calabi-Yau theorem and other articles. In the process of telling, he can always clear his thinking, and have new thinking. Lin Yiran enjoyed the process very much, every discussion made him excited, after each discussion class began to look forward to the arrival of the next discussion class.

Volunteer for public welfare, service, and contribution
In July 2023, the first International Conference of Basic Science (ICBS), organized by Mr.Yau, was successfully held in Yanqi Lake, Beijing, and top scientists from all over the world gathered here. Qiuzhen College organized selecting students as volunteers to participate in the conference, and Lin Yiran was also among them. During the conference, he and many students from Qiuzhen College served the academic masters who participated in the conference, and strive to ensure the orderly progress of the conference. In addition to his volunteer work, he also cherished the precious opportunity to listen to the report of the conference, fully communicate with foreign experts and scholars, and come into contact with many cutting-edge problems in mathematics, preparing him for the upcoming stage of scientific research.

Lin Yiran actively responded to the school's "no sports, no Tsinghua" call, keen to participate in physical exercise."Besides math, my favorite is sports. I firmly believe that sports can hone one's will."His favorite sport is running, and he runs several laps on the playground whenever he has time. In this year's school sports meeting, Lin Yiran actively participated in and prepared carefully made daily plans, and insisted on training every day. From the beginning of this semester, Lin Yiran followed the second team under the leadership of his senior students, hoping to further improve his ability under the guidance of scientific methods.
