September 10, 2023, is the 39th Teacher's Day. Mr.Shing-Tung Yau, dean of The College, and the head teacher of the freshmen held a discussion and exchange with the freshmen of 2023. The freshmen extended their best wishes to the teachers of the College.
In a relaxed and harmonious atmosphere, Mr.Shing-Tung Yau listened to the speeches of the freshmen representatives one by one, understood their direction of learning interest and development plan, and gave guidance and suggestions. Truth-seeking College has allocated rich learning resources for all students and set higher standards. The word "seek truth"(Qiu-zhen) is a requirement for each student. Exploring science should have a truth-seeking and pragmatic style and truth-seeking and pragmatic rationality.
Mr.Yau combined his own learning experience to form the corresponding learning methods at different stages. He pointed out that students should build a solid theoretical foundation and read books and essays in mathematics and physics, but also read classic works of other subjects. He encouraged students to devote themselves to research, expand their thinking, pursue truth in mathematics, strive to make original scientific research results, and make greater contributions to the development of mathematics and other academic fields and science and technology. Mr.Yau mentioned that students should attend as many lectures organized by the college, consult and interact with class teachers and friendly scholars, and use various learning resources on the Internet to read the works of famous mathematicians and scholars, expand their learning vision, train their ability, and gradually discover the interest and direction of research."No sports, no Tsinghua", learning at the same time to maintain a proper amount of exercise, maintain a healthy body and a clear mind, to lay a solid foundation for the future.
The participants gained a lot from this exchange activity. They not only received guidance from a strategic position in professional learning, but also got a spiritual baptism in research career and value orientation, and expressed their exchange experiences one after another.
