Dean Shing-Tung Yau led a history study tour and research trip to Chengdu, Sichuan with students and teachers from Qiuzhen College.
To study history is to learn from the past, and to investigate the past is to grasp the present. The Chinese History Study Tour is an important part of the culture of Qiuzhen College, and is also an integral section of the general education program designed by Mr. Shing-Tung Yau, Dean of Qiuzhen College, to enhance the cultural confidence of the students. From 12 to 16 January, Mr. Yau led students and teachers to Chengdu, Sichuan Province, to visit local historical sites and museums. They also went to Chengdu No.7 High School and the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China to exchange opinions on the cultivation of mathematical talents.
During this history study tour of Chengdu, Qiuzhen teachers and students visited the Du Fu Thatched, the Dujiangyan Water Conservancy Project, Qingcheng Mountain, and the Wuhou Temple to experience the culture of ancient Shu. They also visited the Sanxingdui Museum and the Jinsha Ruins Museum to taste the culmination of thousands of years of Chinese civilization and wisdom, and to systematically understand the historical development of Chengdu through the stories behind each cultural artifact.

Chengdu, as the central city in the western region of China, one of the ten ancient capitals of the country, and the birthplace of the ancient Shu civilization, has a brilliant history and culture. Through this history study tour, the students have experienced the unique ancient Shu culture, deeply felt the charm of Chinese civilization, and strengthened their determination to serve the country after their graduation, just as the lyrics of the Qiuzhen College song written by Dean Shing-Tung Yau— “A gentleman should soar and soar, strive for self-improvement, and aim at changing the world”.
