    Summary

Black holes are one of the most mysterious cosmic bodies in the universe. They are possibly the center of galaxies, the ultimate form of planets, and relics of the early universe.

The study of black holes commenced from the era of Newtonian gravity theory, and general relativity theory provided the classical description of a black hole. Nevertheless, quantum effects such as Hawking radiation lead the study in this field to a foggy future.

At present, black holes have been the key to a few research like quantum gravity and quantum information. In this lecture, the history and status quo of the study of black holes will be briefly introduced.

    Brief introduction to the speaker

Professor Song Wei, from the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Tsinghua University, works on Superstring theory and theoretical studies of black holes.
