In order to exert full advantage of teaching and scientific research resources of Tsinghua University and cultivate interdisciplinary talents closely related to mathematics, recently Qiuzhen College signed a cooperation agreement on the afternoon of August 30th, and the signing ceremony was held in conference Room 407 of the central main building.
Jiang Peixue, vice president of Tsinghua University, Shing-Tung Yau, President of Qiuzhen College, Dai Qionghai, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor of the Department of Automation, and Zhang Tao, dean of the Department of Automation attended the signing ceremony and delivered a speech. Shing-Tung Yau first expressed his great pleasure to cooperate with the Department of Automation in the field of talent training. He said that this year is the third year of the establishment of Qiuzhen College, and the training goal of Qiuzhen College is always to cultivate leading talents in mathematics science, and he looks forward to many exchanges with interdisciplinary disciplines related to engineering. Shing-Tung Yau proposed that mathematics would always have an important influence on the development of different disciplines such as theoretical physics, engineering technology, life science and economics. He hoped that Qiuzhen College and the joint training department could communicate with each other, inspire each other, carry out long-term and stable cooperation, and jointly improve the research capacity. It is expected that the students of Qiuzhen College will produce important achievements in relevant fields in the future and make important contributions to the development of the whole science.

Dai Qionghai welcomed Mr. Yau's visit to the Department of Automation. He fully affirmed the basic role of mathematics discipline, especially the boosting role of intelligent science and technology. Dai said the establishment of intelligent science and technology to promote the intersection of engineering, mathematics and biology. He said we hope to establish a mechanism of communication, cooperation and discussion with Qiuzhen College, so as to help the collision problems and collision ideas in interdisciplinary fields, and produce some international top achievements of scientific researches.

Zhang Tao, on behalf of the Department of Automation, welcomed the arrival of Mr.Yau and his delegation once again. Zhang Tao introduced the history of the Department of Automation and the origin of the Department of Automation and Department of Mathematics. He mentioned that the cultivation concept of the Department of Automation was proposed by the founder of cybernetics and the famous mathematician Norbert Wiener, so Zhang often said to his classmates that "the ancestor of our discipline comes from mathematics". Zhang Tao said that Qiuzhen College’s ideas and goals and the Department of Automation’s concept and goals have many complementary things to each other, and in recent years the Department of Automation also strengthens high quality personnel, especially crosses talent training work, so they are very glad to share rich teaching resources with Qiuzhen College. He said they believe that the students of Qiuzhen College in the future whether in mathematics and other fields, will certainly have a broader development between the heaven and earth, and make innovative results by crossing fields.

In his concluding speech, Jiang said that he was very pleased to witness the cooperation between Qiuzhen College and the Department of Automation, which is the first joint doctoral training program established by Qiuzhen College and the departments from science or technology, which is of great significance. He also mentioned that initiated by Mr.Shing-Tung Yau , Qiuzhen College is very important to the development of mathematics and even other science subjects. The Department of Automation has made many great contributions to the development of the field of national automatic control of China. He said that Qiuzhen College and the Department of Automation jointly carry out the work exploration of talent training, give full play to their respective strengths, and achieve win-win cooperation, which is what the school expects to see. Jiang Peixue stressed that Tsinghua University has always encouraged and support interdisciplinary subjects, so that its students have a broader subject foundation, and make original results on this basis. At the same time, Tsinghua University also encourages students to be brave in challenges, break into no man's land, and do research that others have never done. In the end, Jiang Peixue expressed his expectation that the joint training program of Qiuzhen College and the Department of Automation will contribute to the emergence of original scientific research achievements in related fields and promote the development of science and engineering of the university.

Before the ceremony, Mr.Shing-Tung Yau and the representatives of the teachers and students of Qiuzhen College visited the intelligent unmanned system Maker Space of the Department of Automation, the Imaging and Intelligent Technology Laboratory of the Department of Automation , and listened to the introduction of the relevant experts and scholars, so as to have a more comprehensive understanding of the teaching and scientific research of the Department of Automation.
