Mr.Yau expressed great pleasure to cross-cooperate with the School of Life Sciences in the field of talent training. He said that the College focuses on mathematics research, and students will do well in mathematics and theoretical physics in the first three years so that they can play their ability and role in mathematics in other subjects. Yau mentioned that life science is a very important subject, but the intersection of mathematics and life science over the years has not reached the expected goal, and it is the most favorable time for life science and mathematics to cross. It is expected that through the joint training program between Qiuzhen College and the School of Life, students can make revolutionary changes and make important contributions to the intersection of life science and mathematics.
Shing-Tung Yau spoke.
Shi said that the School of Life Sciences's ideas of interdisciplinary, talent training, and scientific innovation are highly consistent with the College. This cooperation focuses on the training of doctoral talents and further promotes the deep integration of life science and mathematics, which is of great significance to the development of life science and mathematics. He hoped that the development of life discipline could realize a revolutionary change from the qualitative to the quantitative with the power of mathematics. The joint doctoral training program can not only promote the cooperation of talent training but also promote the comprehensive cooperation between the two departments in curriculum design, academic research, classroom exchange, and other aspects. Finally, he expects that the School of Life Sciences and Qiuzhen College will grow and develop together, and jointly promote the work of talent training and interdisciplinary development.
Shi Songhai spoke.
Sun Fu shared three experiences in the concluding speech. First, the cooperation between mathematics and other disciplines is not a simple "1 + 1" superposition relationship, but through interdisciplinary catalytic theoretical innovation, to promote the development of both disciplines. Second, some original and influential scientific research achievements will inevitably be produced in the process of interdisciplinary cooperation, which is of great significance to mathematics and life and even more disciplines. Third, outstanding talents with interdisciplinary knowledge structure, thinking mode, and innovation ability are of the most valuable and most long-term significance. The three joint training doctoral programs of Qiuzhen College, the School of Life Sciences, the School of Economics and Management, and the Department of Automation are representative in terms of discipline layout, which highly meet the requirements of President Xi Jinping on the "four aspects" of scientific and technological innovation, and reflect the academic insight and educational feelings of Qiuzhen College. He wished the cooperation between the College and the School of Life Sciences fruitful results.
Sun Fu summed up the speeches.
At the ceremony, Yau and Shi Songhai signed the agreement of joint doctoral training on behalf of Qiuzhen College and the School of Life Sciences respectively. Leaders of Qiuzhen College, School of Life Sciences, Graduate School, BIMSA, and other units, as well as student representatives of Qiuzhen College, attended the signing ceremony.
