Good afternoon, everyone!
I am very glad to have the opportunity to attend the opening ceremony of the 2023 freshmen of Qiuzhen College today. Please allow me, on behalf of Tsinghua University, to extend a warm welcome to all the new students! Since its establishment in 2021, Qiuzhen College has grown very rapidly, under the leadership of Mr.Yau. In just over two years, it has become the backbone of the university's mathematical talent training and has continuously injected new vitality into Tsinghua University.
The rapid development of the College has not only benefited from the pioneering spirit of the college leaders, from the teachers of the college but also from the cultural and spiritual core of the college. Tsinghua University has always adhered to the motto of "unremitting self-improvement and social commitment". Under the influence of such excellent tradition, the College actively explores, pursues innovation, and makes continuous progress." The two words “Seek Truth"(Qiu-zhen), are the request of each student. To explore science, we must have a truth-seeking and pragmatic style, and have a realistic and pragmatic reason. Once we enter Tsinghua University and Qiuzhen College, we are required to keep the desire for knowledge, the exploration of the unknown, and the pursuit of truth. Mr.Yau said, " When the truth is naked, all the odes become small; it can be rich and strong because it is the source of all applied science; it can settle the country because it can plan the meridians of modern society.”
Today, I would like to mention that the College welcomed the first graduate students, marking the development of the College on a new level. Qiuzhen College is the only college with both undergraduate and graduate training, and we are full of expectations for the first doctoral student. This Wednesday, I just attended the signing ceremony of the joint training of doctoral students between Qiuzhen College and the Department of Automation. I think this is a very important thing for the training of doctoral students in our university. Recently, the school has placed special emphasis on interdisciplinary training, and the 20th report also said that interdisciplinary training is the catalyst. In terms of student training, we especially hope to train students well through interdisciplinary training. On the one hand, through interdisciplinary intersection, teachers of different disciplines together to train students, so that students have a broader foundation. Recently, the school has been discussing talent training work, the school party committee standing committee is also discussed after the twenty big report subject education after the school plan of action, which dedicated to talent training, I believe will soon release our school action plan and column, special emphasis on our talent training, whether undergraduate and graduate students will have new initiatives, I also believe that mathematics and other disciplines, including with automation disciplines, and last year with the college of contract training, I am looking forward to mathematics with more interdisciplinary integration, More innovations will certainly be made in the future.
