On the afternoon of September 3rd, the opening ceremony of the 2023 freshmen of Qiuzhen College of Tsinghua University was held in the back hall of the main building. Jiang Peixue, vice president of Tsinghua University, Shing-Tung Yau, Dean of Qiuzhen College, Dai Qionghai, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Professor of Automation Department of Tsinghua University, Wang Xiaofang, Lin Yong, Chen Zhijie, vice presidents of Qiuzhen College, Shi Zuoqiang, deputy director and professor Yau Mathematical Science Center of Tsinghua University, Wu Rongling, Vice President of BIMSA, as well as the representatives of the Teaching and Training Committee and the International Admission Committee, the leaders of the disciplines of Yau Mathematics Science Center, the head teacher of the class of Qiuzhen College, the representatives of the scholars of the College, the college office team, the military training instructors, counselors, representatives of students and all the freshmen of the College attended the opening ceremony. September 10, 2023, is the 39th Teacher's Day. Mr. Yau met the head teachers and the freshmen and held a discussion and exchange with the freshmen of 2023. The freshmen extended their best wishes to the teachers of the College. In a relaxed and harmonious atmosphere, Mr.Yau listened to the speeches of the freshmen representatives one by one, understood their direction of learning interest and development plan, and gave guidance and suggestions. Qiuzhen College has allocated rich learning resources for all students and set higher standards. The word "Truth-seeking(Qiuzhen)" is a requirement for each student. Exploring science should have a truth-seeking and pragmatic style and truth-seeking and pragmatic rationality.

On September 26, Dr.Cai Ruolian, Director of the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and her team, and leaders and personnel of the Beijing Office of the Hong Kong SAR Government visited Tsinghua University. They had a cordial meeting with Mr.Yau. Cai Ruolian said that the Hong Kong Bureau of Education fully recognized Mr. Yau's education concept and ideas, will actively promote cooperation between the mainland and Hong Kong colleges and universities, further enhance mutual understanding, constantly deepen exchanges and cooperation, especially in represented by Tsinghua University Center Of Mathematical Basic Science Research, lead the Hong Kong young generation to strengthen the feelings, temper good skills, better into the country's overall development.

Mr.Yau held a Mid-Autumn Festival symposium with Qiuzhen students
On the occasion of the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day in 2023, Mr.Yau, president of Qiuzhen College, led a group of more than 30 teachers and students from the College to carry out a "Chinese History Practice Study Tour in Shandong and Henan". On September 29, the Mid-Autumn Festival was a traditional Chinese festival. Dean Mr.Yau and his students gathered in Zibo, a famous Chinese historical city. On the night of the Mid-Autumn Festival, teachers and students had a discussion to enjoy the festival and celebrate the 74th anniversary of the motherland. At the symposium, Mr.Yau communicated with the students on the problems and ideas of study and life. Take History As a Mirror: Knowing History Can Lead Us Forward | Chinese History Practice Study of Qiuzhen College to Shandong and Henan Province
From September 28 to October 5, during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day, to study and feel the Chinese thousands of years of history and the origin and development of civilization, Mr.Yau, Caucher Birkar, Professor of Yau Mathematical Science Center of Tsinghua University and winner of the 2018 Fields Prize traveled with 30 College students to explore the culture of the Central Plains. They visited and investigated the historical and cultural relics of Zibo, Qufu, Zoucheng, Kaifeng, Luoyang and Zhengzhou respectively.

On October 21st, the research orientation seminar of Qiuzhen College was held in the Jianhua Building of Tsinghua University. Mr.Yau attended the briefing and delivered a speech. Representatives of 18 professors from the six research directions (algebra, algebraic geometry, number theory, geometric topology, Analysis, PDE, Dynamic systems, Mathematical Physics, Applied Mathematics, probability statistics) of Tsinghua University, and Professor Su Liangjun from the Department of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University, Associate Professor Mo Yilin, Associate Professor Feng Jianjiang and Assistant Professor Qiao Hui attended the presentation. They explained the cutting-edge content of various directions to the students. Professor Yang Yuhong, director of the probabilistic Statistics Research direction of the Center for Mathematical Sciences, presided over the meeting.
