On the afternoon of October 28th, Academician Shing-Tung Yau, an internationally renowned mathematician, visited Inner Mongolia Normal University. Bao Xianhua, vice chairman of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Yang Jie, vice chairman of the CPPCC, Secretary of the Education Working Committee of the Party Committee, and Secretary of the Party Group of the Education Department met and had a discussion.
Academician Yau pays close attention to the development of education in Inner Mongolia. At the meeting, he had a detailed understanding of the current situation and future planning of higher education development in Inner Mongolia and put forward valuable suggestions on talent training, discipline construction, and platform cultivation in Inner Mongolia universities with a broad international vision and a profound master's perspective. He hoped that universities in Inner Mongolia would give full play to their resource advantages in scientific research and disciplines, actively explore and boldly practice in developing basic scientific research, training top-notch mathematics talents, and in the transformation and upgrading of enabling industries, help Inner Mongolia achieve high-quality economic and social development. Bao Xianhua and Yang Jie extended a warm welcome to Academician Yau and his delegation and introduced the work deployment of the party committee and government of the autonomous region on building a strong education, science and technology, and talent area, and vigorously promoting the high-quality development of higher education. Academician Yau delivered a report
Before the meeting, Academician Yau delivered a special report entitled "The Beauty and Application of Mathematics" at Inner Mongolia Normal University. He said that mathematics is based on truth. Everything can change, but the truth of mathematics will not change. In the face of many unpredictable phenomena in thousands of worlds, mathematicians often rely on the guidance of beauty to find the mathematical truth. The development of mathematics depends on the human pursuit of beauty, in the process of exploring the secret meaning of mathematics, perceiving the truth, and finding the truth. Academician Yau explained that mathematics is the art of describing complex phenomena in nature from simple to complex, and its ultimate goal is to be infinitely close to the truth.
