On the afternoon of April 25th, Qiuzhen College held the first Noether Lecture in the Shunde Hall. We invited Nina Zipser, Leader of the Office for Faculty Affairs of Faculty Arts and Sciences, and Dean of Lowell House of Harvard University, to give a presentation, and communicated with the teachers and students who attended the lecture. Dean Shing-Tung Yau, Academic Dean Yitwah Chang, and Associate Dean Wang Xiaofang attended the lecture. The lecture was presided over by Mr.Yau.

Mr.Yau expressed his sincere welcome to Mrs.Zipser's visit. He introduced Mrs.Zipser's research field and hoped that Mrs.Zipser would share his experience in studying and working at Harvard University with Harvard's practices and experience in the field of student training and scientific research, and discuss how to promote talent training and cultural exchanges. He stressed that today is the first session of the establishment of the Noether lecture. He hoped that the students would actively attend the lecture, take the initiative to ask questions, communicate with masters more, and constantly broaden their academic horizons.

Mrs.Zipser reported on the theme of "Harvard University in Abstraction and in Practice". She introduced Harvard's research environment, research field, and graduation direction. She mentioned that Harvard University attaches great importance to research in the field of mathematics, not only has a world-class faculty team and research facilities, but also pays attention to cultivating students' innovation ability and practice spirit, such as innovation and scientific research projects, enable the students to understand the forefront of mathematical theory, and applied to solve practical problems.
When talking about the most cutting-edge knowledge direction, Mrs.Zipser introduced the latest research results and development trends in algebraic geometry, probability statistics, applied mathematics, and other fields based on his scientific research experience at Harvard University. Mrs.Zipser believes that there are differences between the direction of mathematical research in undergraduate and postgraduate studies. In the undergraduate stage, more attention should be paid to the accumulation of basic knowledge and the training of thinking mode, while in the graduate stage, more attention should be paid to the in-depth exploration of professional knowledge in a specific field and carrying out innovative research. She encourages students to choose their research direction according to their interests and aspirations and to challenge the unknown areas.

Mrs.Zipser's sharing not only broadened the academic horizon of the students present but also stimulated their enthusiasm and expectation for the future of academic research. Tsinghua students from Qiuzhen College and the School of Economics and Management consulted Mrs.Zipser on the choice of mathematics study and research direction and got his answers and suggestions. She encouraged students to maintain their love and curiosity for mathematics, dare to try new ideas and methods, and constantly explore unknown areas.
In a relaxed and pleasant communication atmosphere, the first Noether Lecture of Qiuzhen College was successfully concluded. The original intention of the lecture is to commemorate Emmy Noether, a great mathematician of the 20th century. At the same time, it encourages the students to set new heights in the field of scientific research, dare to innovate and make breakthroughs, and make pioneering knowledge and achievements. Through the development of the lecture, the College will invite Chinese and international scholars to Tsinghua University from time to time, to build a bridge for Tsinghua students and top scholars.
