Title:

Favorite sites for simple random walk in two and more dimensions

Abstract:

On the trace of a discrete-time simple random walk on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ for $d\geq 2$, we consider the evolution of favorite sites, i.e., sites that achieve the maximal local time at a certain time. For $d=2$, we show that almost surely three favorite sites occur simultaneously infinitely often and eventually there is no simultaneous occurrence of four favorite sites. For $d\geq 3$, we derive sharp asymptotics of the number of favorite sites. This answers an open question of Erd\H{o}s and R\'{e}v\'{e}sz (1987), which was brought up again in Dembo (2005). This talk is based on a joint work with Chenxu Hao, Xinyi Li and Izumi Okada.

Quantitative equidistribution of linear random walk on the torus

AbstractConsider the action of GL_d(Z) on the d-dimensional torus R^d/Z^d. Given a probability measure on GL_d(Z) and a point on the torus, a random walk is defined. In this talk, I will report some recent progress about the equidistribution of such random walks. More precisely, I will talk about quantitative results under the assumption that the acting group has semisimple Zariski closure. Thi...

Biased Random Walk on Dynamical Percolation

Abstract:We consider a biased random walk on dynamical percolation and discuss the existence and the properties of the linear speed as a function of the bias. In particular, we establish a simple criterion to decide whether the speed is increasing or decreasing for large bias. This talk is based on joint work with Sebastian Andres, Nina Gantert, and Perla Sousi
