Title:

On the Stability of Landau's Two Shock Profile

Abstract:

Landau inspected the long time behavior of spherical symmetric solution to the compressible Euler equations, arguing that there will be eventually two decaying shocks in the solution. Daniel Ginsberg and Igor Rodnianski's recent work, the Stability of Irrotational Shocks and the Landau Law of Decay, justified this picture partially. This talk is based on their work. I will introduce the model shock profile for Landau's picture and the restricted shock development problem, then formulate the stability result of Ginsberg and Rodnianski, and present the outline of their proof.
