A Theory of Trotter Error

Abstract:

Trotterization has been an enduring technique of Hamiltonian simulation. This talk illustrates the foundational concepts of Trotter error theories and focuses on the groundbreaking work by Childs et al., which leverages the commutativity of operator summands to derive tighter and more general error bounds. Applications span digital quantum simulation and quantum Monte Carlo methods, achieving reduced computational complexity.
