Title:

Matrix Points on Varieties

Abstract:

We study the cohomology of the moduli space Cn(X) of matrix points on a variety X, which we think of as non-commutative Weil restriction from the algebra of n-by-n matrices to the ground field. To achieve this, we constructed a more combinatorial space Sn(X), which is birationally isomorphic to Cn(X). Via a crucial application of base change for good moduli morphisms, we show that these two spaces have the same cohomology, and derive a nice combinatorial formula for the cohomology of Cn(X), validating the Weil restriction heuristic.

A Noether-Lefschetz type theorem for spectral varieties with applications

AbstractIn this talk, we will discuss spectral variety and related moduli spaces of Higgs pairs on surfaces. We will first introduce the geometry of moduli of Higgs pairs and the spectral varieties. Indeed, we will talk about the Noether-Lefschetz type problems and the Picard schemes of the spectral varieties. If time permits, the Picard group of generic (very general) spectral varieties and it...

Modern Mathematics Lecture Series | Dynamics on character varieties and Hodge theory

AbstractLet X_n be the set of tuples of 2x2 matrices (A_1, A_2, ..., A_n) such that the product A_1...A_n is the identity matrix, and considered up to simultaneous conjugation. On each X_n, there is a very classical and explicit action of the so-called braid group B_n. This is an elementary case of the so-called mapping class group action on the character varieties of surface groups, and was st...
