Abstract:

Building on her seminal work on moduli space volumes for Riemann surfaces, Mirzakhani also computed expected values of various geometric quantities on moduli space. In particular, she studied the expected Cheeger constant, the injectivity radius at a random point, and the statistical distribution of different types of curves on surfaces of large genus. I will review several of Mirzakhani’s key results, which together give a detailed picture of the geometry of random high genus surfaces. I will then discuss some extensions of her work in the setting of translation surfaces.

What is curvature? And why is it important?

AbstractThe curvature tensor captures the essential geometry of a Riemannian manifold. Curvaturebounds have important geometric, analvtical and topoloaical conseauences, in tum. these can beused for axiomatic characterizations of curvature bounds and extended to general metric spaces.Problems of modemn data analysis lead to a new perspective on curvature that will bedeveloped in this lecture, a...

Some random recursive systems in probability theory

AbstractI am going to make elementary discussions on some random recursive systems in probability theory. These systems have very simple forms, for which most mathematical questions remain yet unanswered.Shi Zhan 施展Academy of Mathematics and System ScienceChinese Academy of Sciences施展,中国科学院数学与系统科学研究院研究员。他本科毕业于中国科学技术大学数学系,在巴黎第六大学获得数学硕士和博士...
