About Yip Lecture

Mr. Shing-Tung Yau, Dean of Qiuzhen College, Tsinghua University, once said, "Mathematics and the humanities have an intricate exchange of common ground." With the development of modern science and technology, mathematics has been widely applied in many fields such as economics, medicine, bioengineering, etc. Mathematics is no longer a lonely and isolated subject, and mathematicians play an increasingly important role in various fields of the domestic economy. However, the connection between mathematics and humanities and social sciences has been neglected by the public. In recent years, it has been gradually realized that students of science and technology also need to improve their humanistic qualities in their studies.

Mr. Shing-Yiu Yip, a veteran doctor and famous collector in Hong Kong, and Mr. Ka-Kay Yip, a renowned entrepreneur, have donated funds to organize the "Yip Lecture" for Tsinghua's students and faculty. This series of lectures is designed to draw on the American liberal arts education, which emphasizes both mathematics and the humanities. At the same time, it aims to inspire academic wisdom and scientific research.
