Course description: Évariste Galois (25 October 1811 – 31 May 1832) was a French mathematician. He is known -- among other things -- for his work on the solvability of polynomial equations. He is considered as one of the founders of group theory, and what is now called Galois theory. I will give a brief account on his mathematical ideas and results.
